Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day. I hope you wore green, pinched someone you love, and had a safe evening. While you were out celebrating your Irish (or not so Irish) heritage, my godson was asking important questions.
The following is part of a conversation that took place between my godson and his mother yesterday:
“Mom, why are my brothers wearing green?“
“Because today is St. Patrick’s Day.“
“Oh, is tomorrow SpongeBob Day?”
For those of you who don’t know, Patrick is SpongeBob SquarePants’ best friend. They have many adventures together in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. To my godson, it only makes sense that we have a day celebrating SpongeBob as well.
And why not?
Kids are full of interesting and innovative ideas and ways of looking at the world. We can learn so much from them. We only need to stop what we’re doing and take time to listen to what they have to say. For them, if St. Patrick’s Day is about Patrick the starfish, so be it. What a great opportunity to encourage their imagination.
So in honor of my godson’s creativity, today will be forever known as SpongeBob Day, at least to me.
Carpe Imaginatio. Seize the imagination. Happy SpongeBob Day.
